Dalai Lama - One Earth Concert & Public Talk

Event Type:government & vip
Venue:The Domain, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney
Over 30,000 people braved the torrential rain to hear the 14th Dalai Lama speak in Sydney's Domain.
Sydney's wettest June on record did not deter the huge crowd at the Domain who turned out to see the Dalai Lama speak on "Peace through inner peace" which was followed by a tribute concert.
Senator Bob Brown and Australian Conservation Foundation CEO, Don Henry both spoke about the importance of conservation and the Dalai Lama's message.
Andrew G was the master of ceremonies, introducing His Holiness and facilitating a lengthy question and answer session. This was followed by a presentation, by Jamie Durie, of a tree that was blessed by His Holiness and planted in the grounds of the Botanic Gardens.
Once the formalities had finished, the crowd was treated to a free tribute concert with an impressive line-up of Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea, Blue King Brown, Mia Dyson, Lior and Ben Lee.
The following day, His Holiness gave another public talk speaking of compassion, love and service, which transcended the varying faiths, traditions and ages of the large crowd in his presence.
Brett Kirk introduced His Holiness, presenting him with a signed Sydney Swans jersey, which he then draped over his robes.
"Caring for others and demonstrating compassion are the best means of achieving happiness for oneself." - His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama.
